This Sunday pay tribute to the United States armed forces veterans and watch the documentary classic Victory At Sea and the moving 2012 National Salute To Veterans on WETA TV26 and WETA HD.
Victory At Sea
Salute the troops and join us for an extraordinary 26-part documentary series exploring the naval campaigns and battles of WWII and how America responded to the victories. The documentary was first broadcast in 1952, and two years later composed into a film, which would ultimately be broadcast in countries world-wide and even won an Emmy for Best Public Affairs Program. Victory At Sea utilizes illustrative and dramatic footage of actual combat against the backdrop of an original orchestra score by composer Richard Rodgers and riveting narration. The film puts a lens on naval warfare, especially the momentous attack on Pear Harbor and the many battles and campaigns which comprised WWII. The use of historic footage allows for this compilation documentary to be all the more compelling. Show your patriotism on this Veterans Day and immerse yourself in history by watching the entire series of Victory At Sea.
Watch Victory At Sea on Sunday, November 11 from 8:30am - 8:00pm on WETA TV26 or WETA HD.
National Salute To Veterans
Show your support of all those who have served in the Armed Forces by watching the National Salute To Veterans. Presented by WETA and hosted by Joe Mantenga (of Criminal Minds) and Gary Sinise (of Forest Gump and CSI: New York), the event is brought to you straight from the nation’s capital and pays homage to all the heroes who have served in America’s military throughout the years. In attendance, and showing their own support of our men and women in uniform (in a variety of unique ways) will be Yolanda Adams, Kris Allen, Javier Color, A.J. Cook, Jason Ritter, Pia Toscano and the National Symphony Orchestra. Audiences can expect an emotional and moving program containing true stories of Veterans, heroism and healing. The event will include a thoughtful “thank you” and salute to the troops who have or currently are serving in Iraq and Afghanistan delivered by Colin Powell. Also included will be an exclusive and intimate look at how veterans and their families manage to deal with the “invisible” scars of war, as well as a tribute to all wounded warriors. Don’t miss out on this patriotic event.
