Monday at 9:00pm Detective Chief Superintendent Christopher Foyle is on the case again! Foyle’s War: Casualties at War Part 1 is set in March of 1943. Between personal drama and work drama, a real case adds to the stress. A local man and gambler is found murdered near a military research center which is also the target of some internationally-funded saboteurs and Foyle enters the top secret arena of weapons research in his pursuit of the truth. Watch Part 2 next Monday!

Tuesday at 11:00pm join us for the premiere of Benny Hill, a slap-stick, sketch, comedy featuring comedian Benny Hill. Wednesday at 7:00pm continue the laughs with My Family season 3 episode 1! This British family sitcom follows the Harper family: married couple Ben and Susan and their three children. For all their wild antics, catch them on WETA UK Mondays – Fridays at 7:00pm.

Thursday at 7:30pm get ready for belly aches from laughing because we’re airing the first episode of Keeping Up Appearances season 5. Hyacinth Bucket (pronounced ‘bouquet’) has a pompous, self-serving attitude which makes life miserable for all around her. In marked contrast to Hyacinth’s meticulously ordered life, the rest of her family is as common as muck and can always be guaranteed to show her up. Friday beginning at 3:00pm, watch the first four episodes of My Family season 1 back-to-back.

Friday at 10:30pm Black Books season 3! Bernard Black runs his own bookshop even though he doesn't much like people who buy books and hates having customers. Next door to Bernard's shop is the Nifty Gifty gift shop run by Fran, probably Bernard's only friend in the world. When Bernard's accountant goes on the run Bernard employs stress victim, Manny to help in his shop. This leads to a series of surreal adventures that are sure to have you laughing.

 

Saturday at 6:30pm watch the first episode of the new WETA UK series DCI Banks!

Sunday beginning at 8:00pm watch back-to-back comedies: Yes, Minister, Miranda, Black Adder, and Mr. Bean! Then stay tuned for the cult classics Doctor Who and Red Dwarf from 10:00pm – 12:00am

Wild Indonesia

Premieres Tuesday January 1 from 3:00pm – 6:00pmThree episodes air back-to-back

This is the story of one of the world's most fascinating regions and its wildlife: Indonesia. From freezing glaciers to coral reefs, orangutans to Komodo dragons, the sheer diversity of landscapes and life defies the imagination. 

 

Benny Hill

Premieres Tuesday January 1 at 11:00pm | Airs late night during the week

This sketch-based, slapstick comedy show starring Benny Hill is a classic British comedy. Benny appears in many different costumes and portrays a vast array of characters. 

 

Downton Abbey Season 1

Premieres Wednesday January 2 at 3:00pmTwo back-to-back episodes Wednesdays at 3:00pm

Set in the Yorkshire country estate of Downton Abbey, this period drama depicts the lives of the aristocratic Crawley family and their servants in the post-Edwardian era — with the great events in history having an effect on their lives and the British social hierarchy in general. 

 

DCI Banks

Premieres Wednesday January 2 at 9:00pm | Airs Wednesdays at 9:00pm

Tenacious and stubborn Chief Inspector Alan Banks and the feisty and headstrong Detective Sergeant Annie Cabbot combine drama, crime, and thrill in this series. 

 

Sherlock Holmes & Agatha Christie’s Poirot                 

Premieres Thursday January 3 at 8:00pm | Sherlock & Poirot air back-to-back Thursdays at 8:00pm

The classic 1980s version starring Jeremy Brett and David Burke moves from WETA TV26 & HD to WETA UK Thursdays at 8:00pm. Agatha Christie’s Poirot starring David Suchet also moves to WETA UK airing Thursdays at 9:00pm

 

The Café

Premieres Friday January 4 at 8:00pm | Airs Fridays at 8:00pm

Three generations of a family host customers at their seafront cafe in this warm and funny comedy series. Sarah moves back home from London, having lost her boyfriend and her job, so she's helping out her mum Carol at the café. Returning home has its pluses and minuses, find out how Sarah handles them in this comedy series. 

 

Primeval Season 1

Premieres Monday January 7 at 4:00pm | Airs Mondays at 4:00pm

This series is returning to WETA UK! When evolutionary zoologist Nick Cutter discovers prehistoric creatures alive and well in the present day, the natural world is turned on its head and humanity faces a threat to its very existence. Unexplained anomalies are ripping holes in the fabric of time, allowing creatures from the very earliest stages of Earth's development to roam the modern world. Cutter and his team struggle to keep the looming disaster secret while dealing with savage dinosaurs and other deadly foes. 

 

Vera I     

Premieres Monday January 7 at 9:00pm | Airs Mondays at 9:00pm

Chief Inspector Vera Stanhope is an experienced and brilliant murder investigator in North East England. Kind-hearted but an inherent loner, Vera freely admits she can become obsessed with her job; driven by her own demons, the detective faces the world with sarcastic wit, guile, and courage. (Vera II begins Monday January 28)

 

Life of Mammals

Premieres Tuesday January 8 at 4:30pm | Airs Tuesdays at 4:30pm

David Attenborough introduces us to the most diverse group of animals ever to live on Earth, from the smallest to the largest. This is the story of 4,000 species which have outlived the dinosaurs and conquered the farthest places on earth, dry or wet, hot or cold. 

 

The WETA UK Event: The Complete Garrow’s Law          

Premieres Saturday January 12 at 8:00pm | Airs Saturdays at 8:00pm 

Garrow's Law is a legal period drama depicting William Garrow, who acted as counsel for the accused, introducing the concept of 'innocent until proved guilty' at London's Old Bailey in the 18th century.

This Week on WETA UK | WETA UK Schedule December 17 – 23

The holiday season is upon us and WETA UK is celebrating with great British Christmas specials. Not only do we have festive shows this week, but we begin new mystery adventures with our favorite detectives like Inspector Morse and the Waking the Dead team. We also begin Masterpiece Classic: Downton Abbey the successful PBS period-drama from the very beginning and continue our favorite British comedies including Coupling and Blackadder II. There are lots of exciting programs on WETA UK, so dive on in to our highlights for the week!

 

Monday at 9:00pm tune in for a new adventure with Foyle’s War: Bleak Midwinter part 1. When Grace Phillips dies in what appears to be an industrial accident, Foyle looks into her death for good measure. Grace had always been such a cheerful girl but recently something had been bothering her. Foyle establishes a link between this death and anothers, the latter who just found out her husband was having an affair. Could Grace have been the mistress? Is the adulterer the murderer? Come back next week for part 2 of this dynamic tale!

Tuesday at 8:00pm begin the story of Downton Abbey from the very beginning. Learn more about this program on the PBS website and tune in every Tuesday at 8:00pm to watch Downton Abbey.

 

Wednesday at 8:00pm join in on another investigation as Inspector Morse takes on Ghost in the Machine part 1! Morse investigates the reported theft of erotic paintings belonging to the now missing Sir Julius Hanbury, a local baronet who is one of those standing for election as the new Master of Courtney College, Oxford. Morse finds Sir Julius's dead body and at first it looks like murder, but police pathologist Dr Grayling Russell believes he killed himself. Return next week for part 2 of Ghost in the Machine.

 

 

Thursday at 9:00pm get mysterious with Waking the Dead: Fugue States part 1. In 1990, two 5-year-old twins, Jason and Cindy, disappeared from their home, and even after a nationwide search was launched, they are still no where to be found. Thirteen years later, Jason is found is in a hospital suffering from car accident related injuries. But where's his sister Cindy? Boyd and the team set out to find her with or without Jason’s help.

 

Friday we’re getting in the Christmas spirit with some of our favorite British holiday specials. At 4:30pm kick off the festivities with My Hero season 2 episode 1 Christmas. George tries to get into the spirit of Christmas by creeping into the houses of Janet's parents on Christmas Eve dressed as Santa to leave them all presents. This doesn't go down as well as he had planned, and Christmas dinner is a bit of a miserable affair until George appears with the real Father Christmas who has a special present for everyone! Repeats Saturday at 7:00am, December 28 at 3:30pm.

Friday continue the laughs and holiday merriment at 5:30pm with Good Neighbors: Christmas Special 1977! When Margo sends back the Leadbetters store bought Christmas gift, they are unable to entertain their high society friends. So as a result the Leadbetters go to share the holiday with their neighbors, the Goods. Who knows what antics this will bring about! Repeats Saturday at 6:00am, December 26 at 9:00am and December 28 at 2:00pm.

Friday at 10:20pm begin watching the hilarious comedy Coupling from the very first episode! When a group of friends begin thinking about love, the results are a wild mix of one-night stands and two-timing and partner-swapping. Often compared to the American television sensation Friends, this British sitcom isn’t one to miss so tune in Friday for season 1 episode 1.

Sunday at 9:00pm Blackadder II begins! A favorite at the Court of Elizabeth I, Edmund Blackadder keeps his head from being chopped off by the capricious Queen with rapier-sharp wit, cunning and bravado. Meanwhile, his rival Lord Melchett loses no opportunity to try to disgrace him. See what classic British actor Rowan Atkinson can do with these characters in the second season beginning Sunday!
