With the US premiere of Poldark, the splashy remake of the classic period drama of the same name, less than a month away, the PBS promotional machine has begun to kick into gear. Which, happily, means more trailers, more footage and more fun things for us to look at featuring this series’ exceptionally talented (and yeah, pretty attractive) cast.

Based on Winston Graham’s popular series of novels, Poldark stars The Hobbit’s Aidan Turner as a swoon-worthy Ross Poldark, a long-suffering hero who returns home from fighting in the Revolutionary War to discover that his father is dead, his sweetheart has been pledged to marry his cousin and his family mine has been lost. So, you know, drama. Turner is joined by The White Queen’s Eleanor Tomlinson as maid turned eventual love interest Demelza, along with Heida Reed, Kyle Soller, Phil Davis, Jack Farthing and more.

PBS and Masterpiece have released a couple of new trailers to help us all get in the proper period drama spirit, and, man, does this show look beautiful

The first clip is heavy on the back story – ostensibly to catch the attention of new viewers unfamiliar with the original series – and lots of dramatic scenes interspersed with voiceovers telling us how romantic, scandalous and/or crazy Ross Poldark is.

(Also yeah, again, everyone is very attractive. Forgive me, I’m so shallow today.)

The second preview is a bit more vague, but equally gorgeous to look at.

Our lucky friends in the UK have already seen Poldark (pause for a moment while we side-eye them all jealously), but for us Yanks, the drama starts on Sunday, June 21. As is frequently the way of such things, we already know the show’s been renewed for a second season before we see the first one, so feel free to get attached right away.

Are you guys looking forward to Poldark? (Should I recap it? I’m leaning to yes, I think? Anybody interested?)
