In honor of Victoria Day, ITV and Masterpiece released a first look clip at the highly anticipated second season of the period drama that bears the queen’s name, Victoria. Still celebrated in various places around the world – it’s an actual federal holiday in Canada – Victoria Day marks the anniversary of the British monarch’s birth.

The footage, featuring stars Jenna Coleman and Tom Hughes in their roles as Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, is the first we’ve seen to date from Victoria Season 2.

The new clip is brief, clocking in at just under a minute in total. It shows the baptism of Victoria and Albert’s first daughter, Victoria Adelaide Mary Louisa. (And it's still awesome.)

If this new footage is anything to go by, it looks as though Albert will still be struggling somewhat with finding his place in Victoria’s life and reign. Poor thing.

Season 2 of Victoria will once again be comprised of eight episodes. It will pick up six weeks after the conclusion of Season 1, and cover some portion of the queen’s reign during the 1840s. Much of the new season’s drama will focus on Victoria’s efforts to balance her duties as a mother and a monarch, She had six children between 1840 and 1848 and had quite a complicated relationship with motherhood. So there’s quite a bit to cover in that regard. Plus, the always amazing Dame Diana Rigg will be joining the cast, playing the Duchess of Buccleuch, who served as the Queen’s Mistress of the Robes and was a lifelong friend of the queen’s.

Victoria will return for a second season later this year on ITV. There’s no PBS airdate set for Season 2 as yet, but it’s highly likely the series will return to US screens in  January of 2018, in a broadcast cycle that's roughly same as Season 1.

Are you looking forward to more Victoria? What sorts of stories would you like to see in Season 2?
