Crime Drama ‘DCI Banks’ Will Return for a Fourth Season

It’s official: ITV has renewed gritty contemporary crime drama DCI Banks for a fourth season.

The series, based on Peter Robinson’s novels, stars Stephen Tompkinson as DCI Alan Banks alongside Andrea Lowe as DS Annie Cabot and Doc Martin’s Caroline Catz as DI Helen Morton. Series 4 will be comprised of six new episodes, which will explore three separate mysteries.

‘DCI Banks’: Mystery Fans, Get Your First Look at Series 3!

Gritty contemporary mystery series DCI Banks was officially renewed for a third season last June, but we haven’t heard much about what Series 3 might look like. Happily, that’s no longer true, as we now officially have our first look at the drama’s next set of episodes.

DCI Banks will return for a new six-part series starring Ballykissangel’s Stephen Tompkinson, Andrea Lowe and Doc Martin’s Caroline Catz. Series 3 will based on three of Peter Robinson’s  novels, and two episodes will be devoted to each of the three stories entitled Wednesday’s Child, Piece of My Heart and Bad Boy

Now ITV has released the first trailer for DCI Banks Series 3 and it has the same dark and gritty feel we’ve come to expect from this show. It’s also surprisingly tense for something that’s only a minute long.

Finally: Crime Drama DCI Banks Officially Renewed for a Third Series

Good news for fans of gritty contemporary mystery series DCI Banks – ITV has officially renewed the show for a third series!  While this bit of information has long been assumed/expected, it’s still nice to have an actual formal announcement that Series 3 is indeed going to happen.

The crime drama will return for a new six-part series starring Stephen Tompkinson, Andrea Lowe and Caroline Catz. Series 3 will based on three of Peter Robinson’s  novels, and two episodes will be devoted to each of the three stories entitled Wednesday’s Child, Piece of My Heart and Bad Boy

“DCI Banks has become a firm favorite amongst the ITV Drama audience and I’m very pleased we have commissioned a third series,” said ITV’s Director of Drama Steve November.  “The new stories will pose searching questions for Banks as ultimately he’s forced to take extreme action to keep his team together.”

Per the official press release the new series will see DS Annie Cabbott return from maternity leave, explore whether a romantic relationship between Annie and Banks can ever be a reality, and introduce Banks’ university dropout daughter Tracy.  DI Helen Morton is also returning and she, Annie and Banks will have to sort out how to work together as a team.
