Big news for Doctor Who fans - there's a new companion in the TARDIS!

Actress Pearl Mackie will be stepping on board as the Twelfth Doctor's latest companion, replacing Jenna Coleman, who departed the show at the close of Season 9 last year in order to go off and play Queen Victoria.  Mackie will join current Doctor Peter Capaldi for Season 10, playing a new character named "Bill".

The new season of Who is expected to start filming this year, but will not air until 2017.

‘Doctor Who’ Christmas Special to Get Theater Screening This Holiday Season

Apparently watching British television at your local multiplex is a super trendy activity now?

Following on the heels of the announcement that the upcoming Sherlock Victorian-themed one-off episode would screen in cinemas around the US, we can also start planning to see this year’s Doctor Who Christmas special on the big screen too. Yes, BBC Worldwide and Fathom Events have announced that this year’s holiday installment of the iconic sci-fi series will run for a special two-night event in US theaters December 28 and 29 at 7:30pm (local time) in nearly 300 theaters across the U.S.

David Tennant and Catherine Tate Reunite for New ‘Doctor Who’ Audio Series

Good news, Doctor Who fans: David Tennant and Catherine Tate are coming back!

Well, sort of.

No, the Tenth Doctor and Donna Noble won’t be making a return appearance on the iconic television show - though we did see a brief glimpse of them both in a flashback during the recent Season 9 episode The Girl Who Died. Instead, the pair are reuniting to record three new audio dramas with a full cast for Big Finish, which will tell more stories of the adventures that Ten and Donna had together during her time in the TARDIS.

(And we’ll just ruthlessly not think about the manner in which Donna left the TARDIS. Never gonna be over it. Ever.)

‘Doctor Who’ Season 9 Trailer Features Missy, Monsters and Maisie Williams

Another awesome thing thanks to San Diego Comic Con – after months and months of waiting, we finally got our first look at the highly anticipated new season of Doctor Who. Stars Peter Capaldi, Jenna Coleman and Michelle Rodriguez were on-hand at the show’s big Hall H panel to introduce the Season 9 trailer,

The clip, which features lots of action, danger and drama – as well as lots of monsters old and new – certainly maintains the darker tone that was a hallmark of Capaldi’s first season, though at least it looks like some of the conflict between Twelve and his Companion Clara has been worked out (or at least has died down).

Oh and Missy (the new female incarnation of the Doctor’s old friend/nemesis the Master) is definitely back, though the trailer is unclear about whether she’s on the side of the good guys this time around or not. Also, there’s a Dalek!

Celebrate Ten Years of "Doctor Who's' Return with This Amazing Fan Tribute

Ten years ago this March - March 26 to be exact - a beloved science fiction franchise made its return to the BBC after a nine year absence. It was called Doctor Who, and with the episode "Rose," Ninth Doctor Christopher Eccleston and his companion Billie Piper reintroduced the iconic alien with a blue police box to a whole new generation. Now, in 2015, it's hard to believe that it's actually been that long since Who came back to us - and that the show has since achieved an absolutely unprecendented (and frankly astonishing) level of global mainstream popularity. (I suspect if you asked the production team behind that long-ago Season 1, they never would have predicted this in about a million years.)

Telly Romance: Grand Gestures for Valentine’s Day and Beyond

When you think “romance”, the UK probably isn’t the first place that comes to mind. (Though they’re obviously moving up in that department since a recent poll found British accents were considered the sexiest in the world.) Admittedly the Brits may not have the same reputation for seduction and passion as the French or Italians, for example. But then I’d take an awkward, heartfelt romantic gesture over a smooth operator who thinks he’s God’s gift to women any day.

I’ve compiled a few romantic telly moments that I believe clearly illustrate my point. While not all of them are appropriate for a Valentine’s Day surprise, each one evokes a sense of putting yourself (or in some situations, your friends) out there without knowing for sure what the reaction will be. Please enjoy the love!

Preview the ‘Doctor Who’ 2014 Christmas Special

Doctor Who Series 8 wrapped up last weekend with a finale that included Cybermen, the return of an old enemy, difficult emotional choices, and the first reference to Gallifrey’s continued existence we’ve heard since the 50th anniversary special last year.

This season – the first for Peter Capaldi’s Twelfth Doctor - has proven a bit divisive among Who fans and the finale (entitled “Death in Heaven”) is certainly no less contentious, depending on how you felt about a variety of topics, including Cybermen in general, the identity of Missy, the handling of the Clara and Danny relationship and whether the whole Nethersphere explanation worked for you. (I have a lot of thoughts about this, but you can probably extrapolate most of them based on my previous ramblings on the first half of Series 8. In short, I love Capaldi, but I’ve found this season largely a frustrating one.)

At any rate, no matter how you feel about the conclusion of Series 8, season finales always bring at least one thing all Whovians can get excited over, the trailer for that year’s upcoming Christmas special! And the 2014 version promises us the most Christmassy of all trappings – Santa Claus himself.

'Doctor Who' Series 8: Let's Discuss the Road So Far

The eighth episode of Doctor Who Series 8 aired this weekend, which puts us well past the halfway point of the new season, and of Peter Capaldi’s first year as the Doctor.

Originally, I’d been planning to do a recap series on this season, but then, as a lot of you know, I broke my foot and that sooo didn’t happen, so instead I thought I’d check in now that we're past the seriesmidpoint and see how people are feeling about the new season, the new Doctor, and the many new characters and dynamics we’ve seen on our screens thus far. As with any season in which the show is faced with big, series-altering changes, there’s a lot to discuss. Particualrly when a season feels as polarizing as this one.

So, here's me attempting to sort through what's been working and not working for me in Series 8 so far. Join in and share what you think below.

The ‘Doctor Who’ Theme Done Classical Music Style is Everything

The instantly recognizable theme music of iconic sci-fi series Doctor Who has been adored by fans for decades and has subsequently been re-mastered and re-imagined in every possible way, up to and including as the Sherlock credits. (Yeah, that really did happen.)

So, therefore, it shouldn’t surprise anyone that this fan-made cello version of the theme exists. In fact, there are probably several similar takes out there in the depths of the internet that I just haven’t found yet. But this one, I feel safe saying, definitely has to be the coolest.
