Friday News Roundup

Here at Telly Visions, we’ve decided to implement a Friday roundup for all those fabulous little bits and pieces of news and fun things that surface over the course of the week that don’t necessarily merit an entire post on their own, but are too interesting to just ignore.

(Well, for now it’s a Friday roundup. We’ll see how we go.  If you want more of this kind of thing, give us a follow on Twitter, it'll be a bit more lax over there.)

Anyway, click right on through for bits and bobs on Sherlock, Downton Abbey, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Doctor Who, Misfits, and more!

Andrew Scott, a.k.a the best-dressed James Moriarty ever, dishes on the new series of Sherlock. [Mild spoilers alluded to, but nothing substantial.]  Part 2 of the interview is here.

Want to dress like Sherlock? There’s an entire blog dedicated to finding clothes and household items (even Mycroft’s umbrella!) from the show.

For those of you who are fans of Holmes in all forms, the new trailer for Robert Downey, Jr's Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows has been released. [Warning for a casting spoiler you might not be aware of yet, though.]

The official soundtrack for Downton Abbey is being put together, and it will apparently contain a special version of the theme song that will have words/vocals. Um. Okay then.

Speaking of Downton Abbey, according to the Daily Mail, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge spend their Sunday nights on the couch with the costume drama. Apparently they’re just like normal people!

2011 continues to be the year of British remakes from every direction: Chuck creator Josh Schwartz is looking to do an American remake of popular (and, really, rather risqué) teen sci-fi drama Misfits. Not sure how that’s going to fly in the US. Honestly, Misfits is a brilliant show, but it would likely have to be substantially altered to get on the air here. Worth it?

Jason Isaacs: incredibly charming in this Q&A about Case Histories.

Florence Welch, of Florence + the Machine, wants to guest star as a monster in an episode of Doctor Who. I would support this kind of stunt casting.

Being Human casts replacement Mitchell. Well, not really. They’re very firm on this character NOT being Mitchell 2.0. Nevertheless, Damien Moloney has been tapped to join the supernatural drama, now that Aidan Turner’s departed to go play hobbits and dwarves in New Zealand.  Curious about how new blood is going to affect what was truly remarkable cast chemistry among the original group.

Sadness: Wonderful comedy The IT Crowd will not return for a fifth series. It will, however, come back for one more special to end on.

Lacy Baugher

Lacy's love of British TV is embarrassingly extensive, but primarily centers around evangelizing all things Doctor Who, and watching as many period dramas as possible.

Digital media type by day, she also has a fairly useless degree in British medieval literature, and dearly loves to talk about dream poetry, liminality, and the medieval religious vision. (Sadly, that opportunity presents itself very infrequently.) York apologist, Ninth Doctor enthusiast, and unabashed Ravenclaw. Say hi on Threads or Blue Sky at @LacyMB.
