Tonight at 9pm on Masterpiece Mystery, Shaun Evans stars in Endeavour, a prequel to the long-running Inspector Morse series.

Set in 1965, Evans stars as a much-younger Endeavour Morse, back when he was a rookie Detective Constable cutting his teeth on his first cases in Oxford.

Click through for a sneak peek at a scene from tonight’s mystery special and get a bit of a feel for Evans’ performance in the role of Morse. What do you think? Will he be able to live up to John Thaw?

You can also watch a preview for Endeavour here. And good news – this one-off film was such a hit for UK network ITV that they’ve already commissioned a new four-part series of the Endeavour property for next year. (And yes, film’s the cast is all slated to return for the full series, as well. Hurrah!) It’s currently slated to be filmed later in 2012.

Lacy's love of British TV is embarrassingly extensive, but primarily centers around evangelizing all things Doctor Who, and watching as many period dramas as possible.

Digital media type by day, she also has a fairly useless degree in British medieval literature, and dearly loves to talk about dream poetry, liminality, and the medieval religious vision. (Sadly, that opportunity presents itself very infrequently.) York apologist, Ninth Doctor enthusiast, and unabashed Ravenclaw. Say hi on Threads or Blue Sky at @LacyMB.
