Fear not, fans of Doctor Who companion Amy Pond – her portrayer Karen Gillan will back on your television screens again this Fall.

Gillan is set to star in a new ABC comedy from Emily Kapnek, creator of the network’s current hit Suburgatory. Called Selfie, the half-hour sitcom is apparently a modern take on My Fair Lady, and tells the story of a self-obsessed twenty-something named Eliza Dooley (ha ha, right?). After suffering a public and humiliating breakup, she becomes the subject of a viral video and suddenly has more social media "followers" than she ever imagined -- but for all the wrong reasons. She then enlists the help of a marketing expert at her company to help repair her tarnished image.

Star Trek’s John Cho will play said marketing expert (named Hennry) and other cast  members include Homeland’s David Hare, Weeds’ Allyn Rachel, Conviction’s Tim Peper and Da’Vine Joy Randolph.

It’s lucky that I’m excited enough about the prospect of seeing Gillan on my TV again regularly to ignore how utterly horrible it is that someone somewhere is actually producing a television show that’s titled Selfie. Ugh.

Terrible title aside, it’s lovely to see Gillan doing so well professionally after her time in the TARDIS wrapped. Her horror flick Oculus was released earlier this year and she’s got a major role in the splashy new Marvel film Guardians of the Galaxy heading our way this summer. In former, she’s played a woman terrorized by a malevolent supernatural force in an antique mirror and in the latter, well, she’s a bald, bright blue alien that also happens to be the film’s villain. So, she’s been keeping pretty busy.

What do you think of the prospect of Gillan becoming an American sitcom star? Does Selfie sound like something you'd check out?
