The first trailer for the highly anticipated second season of mystery series Grantchester is here!

(And yes, for those who are curious, it has Dickens in it. We can all breathe a little easier.)

Based on a series of novels by James Runcie, Grantchester follows the story of a charismatic clergyman who turns accidental crimefighter when one of his parishioners turns up dead. He joins forces with an overworked police inspector and the pair form an unlikely crime-solving partnership and friendship.

James Norton and Robson Green star as Sidney Chambers and Geordie Keating, alongside an ensemble that includes Tessa Peake-Jones as Sidney’s housekeeper Mrs. Maquire, Morven Christie as Sidney’s glamorous friend Amanda and Kacey Ainsworth as Geordie’s wife Cathy. Neil Morrissey will also be joining the cast this season as a grieving father whose daughter has been killed in suspicious circumstances.

Season 2 will be based on Runcie’s second Granchester Mysteries novel, entitled Sidney Chambers and the Perils of the Night. In 1954 murderers were still hanged, and in this new series Sidney and Geordie have to face up to the consequences of becoming such an accomplished crime fighting duo. For Sidney, in particular, as the vicar in a small village this becomes increasingly difficult.

The second season of Grantchester is set to premiere in the US on Masterpiece beginning March 27.

Per the official site, the new season's cases include a shocking charge of sexual assault that turns into a homicide investigation implicating a pillar of the community; an apparent suicide from the college spire that takes on Cold War overtones: a confession to murder in which the alleged victim is still very much alive; a haunted stable with links to the Holocaust and more.
