Love is actually all around us, folks – a sequel to beloved holiday romantic comedy Love Actually is happening!
Now, before anybody gets too excited – this isn’t the feature-length Love Actually sequel that we all (or at least me) truly want. It’s a special ten-minute sketch in honor of the annual Red Nose Day charity telethon, penned by original writer/creator Richard Curtis. And it will star….virtually everyone who took part in the original film.
Hugh Grant, Martine McCutcheon, Keira Knightley, Andrew Lincoln, Colin Firth, Lucia Moniz, Liam Neeson, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Olivia Olson, Bill Nighy, Marcus Brigstocke, Laura Linney and Rowan Atkinson are all back for more. And they all look amazing.
The sequel will catch us all up on where almost every major character for the film is now, in 2017.
Watch the trailer for the Red Nose Day sequel for yourselves below:
There’s so much greatness in this clip – Nighy’s rock legend Billy Mack remains both kind of lecherous and deeply awesome, Neeson’s Daniel remains the world’s most perfect father and Firth is still deeply dreamy, despite the awkward turtleneck.
But, there’s also an obvious something missing here. Emma Thompson isn’t taking part in the Love Actually Red Nose Day festivities. According to Thompson, she and Curtis decided that her participation would be too sad, especially so soon after the death of actor Alan Rickman, who played her husband in the film. And they’re probably right, even all of this does add another layer of sadness to the storyline that was already one of its most bittersweet parts.
Red Nose Day takes place on May 25 in the U.S. on NBC, and we can all assume the Love Actually sketch will be the centerpiece of this year’s festivities.
Will you be watching? Possibly multiple times?
