It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas for popular period drama Victoria!

ITV dropped a trailer for the series’ first ever Christmas special, which is set to debut this holiday season.

This episode will air on Christmas Day in the UK, but we’ll have to put our Victorian holiday cheer on hold for a few weeks here in America. We’ll still see this episode, but instead it will air as the finale episode at the conclusion of the Masterpiece Season 2 broadcast.

Those of you who were also Downton Abbey fans probably remember this trick. Downton used to do the same thing. It makes sense, because even if it feels annoying, it’s much better than trying to air the episodes out of order.

Watch the ITV trailer for the Christmas episode below.

(And don’t worry, other than the fact that Victoria and Albert both exist and have several children, there’s not much in the way of spoilers for Season 2 here.)

Everything looks so festive! (Yet somehow it also feels a bit sad. Perhaps that's the bittersweet nature of most holidays.)

The Christmas episode will air in the UK with the subtitle of “Comfort and Joy,” which is a charming little addition that will probably serve as the episode title here in America.

Victoria Season 2 will kick off with a double length episode on Sunday, January 14, 2018. (A little bird tells me that’s also when we’ll see everyone’s favorite swoon-worthy ex-Prime Minister played by Rufus Sewell return. Just, you know, a heads up.)

Are you looking forward to the series’ return?

Lacy's love of British TV is embarrassingly extensive, but primarily centers around evangelizing all things Doctor Who, and watching as many period dramas as possible.

Digital media type by day, she also has a fairly useless degree in British medieval literature, and dearly loves to talk about dream poetry, liminality, and the medieval religious vision.
