It's finally happening! The long anticipated reunion of the BAFTA-winning BBC sitcom Gavin & Stacey  is in the works at last.

James Corden, the show’s co-writer and one of its stars, took to Twitter today with the news.

Ruth Jones and I have been keeping this secret for a while... We’re excited to share it with you. See you on Christmas Day ⁦@BBCOne#GavinandStacey pic.twitter.com/gTRa3cp90t

Gavin & Stacey  originally ran for three seasons from 2007 to 2010. The comedy centered around Essex boy Gavin Shipman (Mathew Horne) and Stacey West (Joanna Page) from Barry, Wales. The pair got acquainted through work phone calls before meeting in person, falling immediately in love and getting married. With an unforgettable extended family of quirky parents, friends and neighbors gathered around them, the couple experienced the pure joys and jarring adjustments that young newlyweds often encounter.

Corden and his co-writer, actress Ruth Jones, will reprise their roles as the hilariously antagonistic Smithy and Nessa. They will be joined in the new special by castmates Horne and Page as the titular couple, plus beloved supporting characters Uncle Bryn (Rob Brydon), Stacey’s mum, Gwen (Melanie Walters) and Gavin’s parents Mick and Pam Shipman (Larry Lamb and Alison Steadman).

In a joint statement, Corden and Jones said:

"Over the last 10 years we've talked a lot about Gavin and Stacey - where they might be today and what their lives might look like. And so in secret we took the plunge and wrote this one hour special. We've loved revisiting Barry and Essex again, and bringing the characters back together has been a joy. We're so excited to get the chance to work with our fabulous cast and crew once more and to give fans of the show a festive treat this Christmas."

At this point, no specific details about the episode are available, but we'll be sure to let you know as that information is released.

Are you excited about the return of Gavin & Stacey? Any guesses about what may the gang may have been up to for the past nine years? We’d love to hear your reaction to the news in the comments!

Carmen Croghan often looks at the state of her British addiction and wonders how it got so out of hand.  Was it the re-runs of Monty Python on PBS, that second British Invasion in the 80’s or the royal pomp and pageantry of Charles and Diana’s wedding? Whatever the culprit, it led her to a college semester abroad in London and over 25 years of wishing she could get back to the UK again.  Until she is able, she fills the void with British telly, some of her favorites being comedies such as The Office, The IT Crowd, Gavin and Stacey, Alan Partridge, Miranda and Green Wing. Her all-time favorite series, however, is Life On Mars. A part-time reference library staffer, she spends an inordinate amount of time watching just about any British series she can track down which she then writes about for her own blog Everything I Know about the UK, I Learned from the BBC.  She is excited to be contributing to Telly Visions and endeavors to share her Anglo-zeal with its readers.
