Sprawling, epic World War II drama World on Fire will officially be coming to PBS Masterpiece this Spring.

The seven-part period drama spans the first year of the war, with its story split between multiple main characters in several locations, including Manchester, Warsaw, Berlin and Paris. The idea is to show the impact of World War II through the eyes of different ordinary people around the world.

World on Fire will officially begin on Sunday, April 5, 2020. Mark your calendars now!

The series features an all-star ensemble cast led by Oscar winner Helen Hunt and Game of Thrones star Sean Bean. They’re joined by a ton of other faces that’ll be very familiar to British television fans, including Lesley Manville (Harlots)Blake Harrison (Prime Suspect: Tennison), Jonah Hauer-King (Little Women), Julia Brown (The Last Kingdom), Brian J. Smith (Sense8) and Polish Academy Award-winner Zofia Wichłacz (Warsaw 44).

PBS also released a second trailer for the series along with the premiere date announcement, which provides a bit more context for the show.

World on Fire will begin with the German invasion of Poland in September of 1939, and conclude with the Battle of Britain. Future seasons will go on to explore the subsequent six years from similar varying points of view – one also has to expect the question of America’s involvement will become more critical as the story continues.

The drama just finished airing in the U.K. to generally positive reviews and has already been renewed for a second season. So, circle the date on your calendars!
