Filming is under way on the third season of Netflix’s award-winning period drama The Crown, and expectations are high as the series ages up its entire Royal Family by way of recasting them all.

Yes, Season 3 will mark the first outing for the next stage of The Crown’s cast, as Claire Foy, Matt Smith, Vanessa Kirby, Matthew Goode and others all stepping down to make way for the next (older) generation of royals. And now we can (finally!) see what our new Philip - Tobias Menzies - will look like!

British Actors You Should Know: Tobias Menzies

As you may have already heard, Tobias Menzies has been cast to take over the role of Prince Philip from Matt Smith in Season 3 of Netflix period drama The Crown. Menzies has signed on for the next two seasons, with shooting to begin this summer in the UK. He will be joined by Olivia Colman who will be playing Queen Elizabeth II and Helena Bonham Carter as the new Princess Margaret.

This 44-year-old actor has had a prolific career thus far and, if you watch much television, you’re sure to have seen him in something. But just in case Menzies' name or face is unfamiliar, we’ve put together a quick list of his credits to get you acquainted with the newest Crown cast member.

Popular Netflix period drama The Crown is getting a new monarch. The series, which currently stars Claire Foy and Matt Smith as Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, will drop its highly anticipated second season this December. But when the show returns for its third go around – ostensibly sometime in 2018 or 2019 – it will jump forward in time, and the royal family will look quite a bit different.
