Period Drama 'Harlots' Returns to Hulu This July

Period drama Harlots will be back for a second season this summer!

The series stars Emily Watson, Lesley Manville and Downton Abbey’s Jessica Brown Findlay, among others, as members of two rival bawd houses in Georgian London. And before you immediately assume that Harlots is some kind of  exploitative trash, let me assure you that it’s not. The series is inspired by stories from real women, features an all-female creative team and is, in all honesty, one of the most thoughtful and feminist programs I watched last year.

'National Treasure: Kiri' is Streaming on Hulu

Fans of Last Tango in Halifax and Happy Valley star Sarah Lancashire, rejoice! You can now catch this wildly talented actress in the new Hulu mini-series National Treasure: Kiri. (And before you ask, it has nothing to do with Nicolas Cage on a American history scavenger hunt.)

This much buzzed about contemporary crime/mystery aired on Channel 4 in the UK back in January of this year, becoming that network's most watched drama series ever. Centered around the abduction and murder of Kiri Akindele, a young black girl in the foster care system, the four-episode mini-series examines the factors of race and family relationships in the aftermath of these tragic events.

Get Excited: Hugh Laurie Has a New TV Show

Hugh Laurie has exactly been doing nothing since his long-running medical drama House wrapped up back in 2012, recently appearing in such popular series as Veep and The Night Manager. But now he’s got a starring role on television once again – or, rather, on popular streaming service Hulu, which is basically television in this day and age– with new drama Chance.

Yes, Laurie is once again playing a doctor, and starring in a show named after his lead character. But that seems to be where the similarities between House and Chance end, as this appears to be a much darker, more stress-inducing affair.

Finally Coming to Hulu: BBC Comedy 'The Wrong Mans'

It seems as though a year has gone by (and it almost has) since Hulu announced they were producing this particular new comedy in partnership with the BBC. Co-starring and co-written by James Corden of Gavin and Stacey fame and Matthew Baynton (Spy and Horrible Histories), this original series called The Wrong Mans is billed as a spy thriller within a sitcom.

Binge Watch Many of Your British Favorites: ‘Doctor Who,’ ‘Sherlock’ and More are Headed to Hulu

Good news for fans of British television – we’re about to get even more online streaming options for many of our favorite shows! The Wall Street Journal reports that Hulu has closed a substantial deal with BBC Worldwide North America to add 144 different BBC titles to its streaming service within the next year. And “substantial” pretty much translates to “amazing” in this instance.

While this deal is non-exclusive (i.e you can find many of these titles in other places), high profile hits like Doctor Who, Sherlock, Luther and more are included. So far they’ve announced sitcoms like the ever popular Absolutely Fabulous, Twenty Twelve, and Fawlty Towers; dramas like Whitechapel and New Tricks; classics like the original House of Cards trilogy, and sci-fi hits like Life on Mars and Torchwood. While many of these programs are destined for Hulu’s subscription-only “Hulu Plus” platform, many will still be available for free streaming on its basic site.
