‘Page Eight’ Continues as the Worricker Trilogy Comes to America This November

Political thriller Page Eight has not just one but two sequels headed to America this Fall! Now dubbed The Worricker Trilogy, the story will continue on with all the spies and espionage-focused goodness you could possibly want.

The original Page Eight aired on both BBC Two and PBS in 2011 and follows the story of Johnny Worricker, an MI-5 agent who discovers a potentially explosive report that alleges the British Prime Minister has details about the US government torturing prisoners in secret overseas prisons. A moral crisis ensues, Worricker’s boss/mentor figure dies, and he ends up leaving the country to destinations unknown to face an uncertain future.

For the sequels, the always amazing Bill Nighy reprises his role as Worricker from the original Page Eight in two more feature length episodes. He is joined by an all-star cast Christopher Walken, Helena Bonham Carter, Ralph Fiennes, Rupert Graves, James Naughton, Felicity Jones, Judy Davis and more. (You may remember that Fiennes and Davis both appeared in Page Eight as well.)

Both installments will air on Masterpiece this Fall, on November 9 and 16, respectively.

1960s Medical Drama 'Breathless' Comes to Masterpiece This Summer

It’s official: Splashy-looking British period drama Breathless is set to premiere on Masterpiece this summer.

The drama follows the lives of a group of doctors and nurses in a 1960s London hospital, a world in which everything and everyone has their place. But underneath this veneer simmers a cauldron of lies, deceptions and guilty secrets, driven by love, ambition and sex. To be honest, it sounds (and even looks!) a bit like a medical drama version of AMC’s critical darling Mad Men.

Entourage’s Jeremy Piven Cast As “Mr. Selfridge,” Series Will Air on Masterpiece in 2013

Entourage star Jeremy Piven – perhaps best known for his exhortation that we all just “Hug it out” – will be given the chance to show off his more serious side in upcoming period drama Mr. Selfridge. Piven will play the titular character, Harry Gordon Selfridge, the visionary American entrepreneur who transformed Oxford Street in London with the splashy department store that still bears his name.

Created by the Emmy Award-winning Andrew Davies (who also did Pride and Prejudice and Bleak House), the ten-part series will focus on the life of the “pioneering and reckless” shipping magnate who turned the act of shopping into an pleasurable and social activity for Edwardian-era women. The series will also deal with some of the same sorts of class issues as Downton Abbey, as well as highlight hidden moments in the history of women in fashion and domestic affairs.

Mr. Selfridge is currently filming in the UK and is slated to air in 2013, but exact dates for US and UK transmission have yet to be determined. (If you'd like an early look at Piven in some fairly fancy period dress, you can find a few filming shots here.)

The announcement that Mr. Selfridge will join the Masterpiece family brought with it some more great news: that the multi-series production co-production deal between Masterpiece and UK network ITV also includes further episodes of Endeavour, Inspector Lewis, Miss Marple and Agatha Christie’s Poirot. So we can now officially look forward to new installments of all four of those popular programs in the coming year as well.
