Even though Thanksgiving is technically over for us Americans, there’s still plenty to be thankful for this week. One of the biggest is that we’re just over a month away from new Sherlock episodes (finally!!). And since that’s the case, that means new promotional material is ever so slowly starting to head our way.

There’s already been a rather dramatic trailer for the new season, but now it’s time for some new photos of the series’ main cast. Stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman are prominently featured (obviously), but we also get new looks at Amanda Abbington, Mark Gatiss, Una Stubbs and guest star Toby Jones. Oh, and Baby Watson makes his or her first official appearance! (Sort of.)

We’re ever so slowly inching toward that joyous day when the highly anticipated fifth season of Downton Abbey will arrive, and, as that’s the case we’re finally starting to see bits and pieces of information emerge about what Series 5 is going to look like.

In short: It’s okay to start getting excited now!

LOOK: Photos from ‘Sherlock’ Series 3’s ‘The Sign of Three’

Fans are waiting with rising levels of anxiety/excitement/mania/joy for popular mystery series Sherlock’s return with premiere episode The Empty Hearse – whether it’s because they want to know the details surrounding how the great detective faked his death, are curious whether John will react to the news of his best friend’s not being quite so dead after all by punching him in the face, or just want to see television’s greatest bromance reunited, we all just want to get to January 19 (and avoid getting spoiled by our friends in the UK who have already seen this awesomeness).

Subsequently, sometimes it’s hard to remember that there are actually two more episodes to come in Series 3, because we’re all so fixed on Hearse and the fact that it’s been two years since we’ve gotten any new Sherlock at all. But, there’s more to come – and now we finally have some details and a look at life after Sherlock’s return.

Series 3’s second episode is titled The Sign of Three, and is ostensibly in some way based on original Sir Arthur Conan Doyle story The Sign of Four, the tale in which we meet Mary Morstan, the woman who would later become Mrs. John Watson. Since we already know that Freeman’s real-life partner Amanda Abbington is playing Morstan, the events of described in this episode and shown in some of the photos probably shouldn’t surprise you, but they do contain a vague spoiler if you’re being super cautious. First Photos from 'Doctor Who' Christmas Special 'The Time of the Doctor'

It’s a bit of a bittersweet time to be a Doctor Who fan. We’re all still basking in the joy generated by the fantastic 50th anniversary celebrations and looking forward to the bonus of another new episode airing at Christmas. Yet, the excitement is also tinged with a hint of sadness, as the arrival of the holiday special means that we’ll be officially saying goodbye to Matt Smith and his Eleventh Doctor. Oh, and we’re also all pretty excited to see incoming Twelfth Doctor Peter Capaldi at the same time. Like I said, it’s a complicated time to be a Whovian.

But, let’s focus on the joy for now, at least – and the excitement that comes with new Who goodies to share. BBC America has helpfully released some new photos from the upcoming Christmas special, entitled The Time of the Doctor. The episode will air on Christmas Day in both the UK and the US, which means that us Americans will only have to manage to avoid the internet for about 5 hours. Whew.

The synopsis for The Time of the Doctor is as follows: Orbiting a quiet backwater planet, the massed forces of the universe’s deadliest species gather, drawn to a mysterious message that echoes out to the stars. And amongst them – the Doctor. Rescuing Clara from a family Christmas dinner, the Time Lord and his best friend must learn what this enigmatic signal means for his own fate and that of the universe.

Well, it would seem that when your fanbase has to wait two years for new material, it’s pretty much right and proper to provide them with a ton of it when you have the chance.

There have already been a ridiculous amount of new extras in the past couple weeks, including a hearse-related promotional announcement, new behind the scenes pictures, a new teaser trailer, and the announcement of a holiday prequel mini-episode. With the premiere(s) inching ever closer, there’s been a positive flood of promotional photos from a variety of sources over the past several days, and it’s possible you’re going to need to sit down for a minute.

But we’re okay with it. Really we are. We promise.
