Peaky Blinders

British Actresses You Should Know: Helen McCrory

We all have those actors whose work we’d watch, no matter what it was. Powerful prestige drama? Scary supernatural tale? Super dated period piece? Random episode of some show you’ve never heard of before, just because they have a bit part in it? Check, check and check. We’ve all been there.

British actress Helen McCrory is one of those performers. (At least for me, at any rate.) I will honestly watch this woman do anything, and not feel bad about it for a single second. Luckily, McCrory is not only ridiculously talented, but one of those actors who’s been in the entertainment business long enough to have a rather significant back log of both mainstream and niche sorts of roles. You’d be surprised how many things you’ve probably seen her in without realizing it. Let's talk about a few of them.

The highly anticipated third season of Peaky Blinders just kicked off in the UK, but it turns out that fans in the US won’t have to wait very long to see the continuing saga of the Shelby clan for themselves.

Season 3 of the 1920s gangster drama will arrive on Netflix on Tuesday, May 31 and will be comprised of six episodes. The popular streaming service already hosts Seasons 1 and 2

Five Reasons You Should Watch 'Peaky Blinders'

Netflix – one of my new favorite homes for British television these days – just dropped the second series of buzzy drama Peaky Blinders, a period crime piece which follows the story of a notorious gang whose members were known for sewing razor blades into the brims of their hats. Sound weird? Maybe a little bit. But this show just works, and I can’t wait to see what’s in store in Series 2.

If you haven’t tried Series 1 yet… well, you definitely need to give it a look. The show is full of interesting characters, fantastic performances, and a well put together story that’s a great ride from start to finish.

But why watch it, really? Here are five reasons that Peaky Blinders is worth your time.

Period Crime Drama ‘Peaky Blinders’ Comes to Netflix

It would seem that Netflix is becoming quite the home for British television in America these days – after the online streaming service brought contemporary crime dramas The Fall and Happy Valley across the pond, the site has now moved on to more a bit of period crime fare.

Netflix has locked down exclusive rights as the US distributor for the popular British drama Peaky Blinders, a six-part factually-inspired series that follows the story of the Shelby family in Birmingham in 1919. These were the leaders of the violent Peaky Blinders gang, whose members were notorious for sewing razor blades into their hats – which also happens to be where their nickname comes from.

Created by Steven Knight, the drama stars Cillian Murphy, Sam Neill, Helen McCrory and Annabelle Wallis. Watch a trailer for the first season’s Netflix debut below
