Film star Kate Beckinsale has been tapped to star in ITV’s upcoming thriller The Widow. The eight-part series comes from screenwriting brothers Harry and Jack Williams, the men behind recent popular British dramas Liar and The Missing.

Beckinsale is probably best known these days for her role in the Underworld films, where she plays a vampire named Selina who regularly feuds with werewolves and kicks butt in leather pants. She also recently starred in Jane Austen adaptation Love and Friendship, as well as Marc Webb’s The Only Living Boy in New York. (And you may remember her for her starring roles in early 2000s films like Pearl Harbor, Serendipity and The Aviator.)

The Widow follows the story of a woman whose life falls apart after she learns her husband has died in a plane crash. That is, of course, only the beginning.

‘Call the Midwife’ Wraps Filming on Season 7

It feels like it’s been an age since the last season of Call the Midwife ended, even if it was only several months ago in reality.

The medical drama follows the story of a group of nurse midwives and nuns who care for the residents of the economically disadvantaged neighborhood of Poplar. Call the Midwife, of course, is so much more than that though – really digging into the personal stories of all the different women involved. (It’s also great if you happen to need a good cry for whatever reason.)

As TV fans go, Midwife viewers are pretty lucky. Though there are some big cast changes headed our way next season, the series has already been renewed through Season 9. (The upcoming run of the drama will only be the series’ seventh season.) If you love the midwives, you’ve got a lot to look forward to over the next few years.

The drama recently wrapped production on Season 7, and posted a pretty adorable cast photo to mark the occasion to its social media accounts

Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, the creative duo behind the megahit mystery series have re-teamed to bring another famous literary adaptation to the small screen. According to Variety, the two are in talks to tackle an adaptation of Bram Stoker classic Dracula

Jenna Coleman Not Leaving 'Victoria' Any Time Soon

The big period drama news of the moment is that Claire Foy is planning to hang up her crown. Yes, the actress who won all sorts of critical and fan acclaim playing Queen Elizabeth II in Netflix original series The Crown will depart the series following its second season. Apparently the show’s going to jump forward in time during Season 3, and will require the use of older actors to play Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh. (Sniff.)

Understandably, this news has left some fans full of worry that the other big period drama telling the story of a queen’s reign might follow suit in the near future. But fans of Victoria can rest easy – star Jenna Coleman, who plays the titular queen has no plans to go anywhere just yet. (And it sounds like the show itself really doesn’t want her to.)
