Michael Gambon and Keeley Hawes to Star in TV Adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s ‘The Casual Vacancy’

An all-star British cast has been announced to take part in the TV adaptation of author J.K. Rowling’s best selling The Casual Vacancy, led by none other than Dumbledore himself. Harry Potter’s Michael Gambon is set to star, alongside such notable and fabulous faces as Line of Duty’s Keeley Hawes, The Hollow Crown’s Rory Kinnear, Appropriate Adult’s Monica Dolan, Miss Marple’s Julia McKenzie and more.

Casual Vacancy was Rowling’s first novel for adults after the conclusion of the Harry Potter series, and focuses on the small English town of Padford, where a special election is being held following the sudden death of a local council member. Drama ensues, as squabbles amongst the townspeople erupt - rich vs. poor, teenagers vs. parents, wives vs. husbands, teachers vs. pupils.

Sometimes a real-life drama is so twisty, it’s hard to believe it’s true. The disappearance of Lord Lucan has a little bit of everything: a fall from grace, shocking violence, aristocratic celebrity and a mystery that endures to this day.

No wonder someone wanted to dramatize it for television.

ITV has released the first trailer for Lucan, a new two-part series about the infamous aristocrat. It stars The Hollow Crown’s Rory Kinnear in the title role, buffered by an impressive cast that includes Doctor Who’s Christopher Eccleston and Harry Potter’s Michael Gambon.
