The series stars Last Tango in Halifax’s Nicola Walker as DCI Cassie Stuart and Sanjeev Bhaskar as her partner in crime-solving, DS Sunny Khan.
The duo takes on emotionally charged cold cases involving frequently grisly murders and disappearances, and each season follows the slow unraveling of a crime from the past. Season 3 sounds as though it will be more of the same. (And that’s definitely not a bad thing.)
The first two seasons of Unforgotten came to PBS in 2018 and aired in back-to-back installments. (It first aired in 2015 on ITV.) The drama was a surprise hit for Masterpiece, who also scooped up the rights to its third season, which aired in the U.K. in 2018. Which, you know, is great news for its many new fans that are eager for more.

The official Masterpiece synopsis has a few more details:
The pair will be joined this season by acclaimed actors Alex Jennings, Kevin R McNally, Neil Morrissey and James Fleet, who play a close-knit group of old school friends that have stood by one another through thick and thin.
However, when the body of a teenage girl who went missing at the turn of the millennium is found at a building site off the M1 motorway, the four men are placed under the spotlight and their relationships are tested to the limit.
Set across the south of England in locations including Norfolk, West Sussex, Bristol, Hampshire and London, the new season explores how everyday lives can be fractured and destroyed by one event, showing that appearances can often be deceiving.
The series has already been renewed for a fourth season, though we don’t know precisely when that will air yet on either side of the pond. (And with the conclusion of Season 3, we’ll have officially caught up to our U.K. friends, so we’re all about to be stuck waiting together.)
If you still need to see Seasons 1 and 2, they’re currently available to stream with WETA Passport.
